So sorry to tell you this but Michael Bauer, who has been in business selling Asian antiques for the last 40 years has lost the lease to his warehouse. He needs to liquidate everything in his warehouse by the end of October as the land has sold and is needed to demolish the building and build apartments for the students at UK. So, everything will be sold and will need to be taken out by the end of October. Great items for your bidding pleasure are being offered in our catalog which will be online by September 15. We have had fun doing this one as there are many items that have been uncovered having spent at least three decades in the warehouse. Now, just so you know….there are no facilities in the building (so use your own bathroom before attending the previews), there is limited lighting and it is crowded as you will be able to tell by the photographs which are NOT our best but hopefully sufficient for you to see the beauty in each piece. Sometimes tables will be displayed on top of each other and that is why it is important that you attend the previews and take a look for yourself. Fine things abound in the auction that features two antique Chinese beds- one being a wedding bed with an alcove that gives the newlyweds extra space to frolic. (Remember those times?) There is a multitude of jars, vases, and urns…so many that we have put multiple pieces in one lot! A lot of blue and white, celadon, and white glazed pieces offered some being antique and some being newer. Or at least they were newer 40 years ago. This is a decorators, homeowners and dealers dream to come across this quantity of great items. Did I mention that we have stone paving tiles from the Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City? Or millstones? Or antique elm doors? Or antique altar tables? Or beautifully carved architectural elements? You will need to peruse the catalog and bid accordingly. Shelly Sutton is managing this sale as yours truly and his wife will be in England and will not be available to answer questions for you. Shelly lives 35 miles away from the venue which is located in Lexington so your answer might not be available immediately but will be available when she goes over, but it will get answered. So have patience and understanding. Now for a very important part. EVERTHING will need to be picked up by the end of October so if you cannot abide by this, then please do not bid as we do not have the ability to store items from the sale. We will be doing pick up differently as well in that the first week: we will load out the smaller items the first week with the second week then being able to handle the furniture and heavy items. (We do not want to “crash” into anything while trying to move furniture out) We will have a forklift available on Saturday, October 24 for loading out the extremely heavy stone pieces. If you have bought both smaller and a heavy item, then we will our best to accommodate you. But again, please have patience. It is very cramped in the warehouse- we have cataloged over 1000 items into 360 lots! If you find that you cannot abide by the need to get your items by the end of October, then please do not bid. But remember if you do bid then…..bid high and bid often!
